Why Waking Up To Eat Can Sometimes Be A VERY Good Thing

How do you know when ur strength training and yoga practice are in balance and your doing what agrees with your body?

Your metabolism will be STOKED! My belly woke me up last night about 30 minutes into sleep for more calories ‪#‎growmusclesgrow ‬

When you have a balanced training program of strength, yoga, pilates and a small amount of metabolic conditioning your body will respond by saying, “FEED ME”!

So I listened and this is what my belly received; Organic rice crisps, 2 tbsp hemp seeds, tbsp pumpkin seeds, few pecans, mulberries and coconut milk in a tea cup. Not a lot. Just enough to keep my muscles and liver doing ther job while I sleep:-)

Most people believe that the actual work and transformation of their bodies comes from the exercise itself; so we push harder, lift heavier, run longer or add in just one more class. However, this is completely counter-intuitive to how change happens in your body regardless of your goal; lose weight, gain muscle, lose inches, firm up, build strength or increase your endurance. In order to actually see the best benefits from your training you must FUEL and REST your body consistently and efficiently. This is our rest and digest state AKA where transformation takes place!

5 FREE Tips to help clear out toxins, increase your energy and decrease your cellulite!

I am blown away by the amount of crazy myths, lies and weight loss and cellulite reducing urban legends that still exist out there.  What is most upsetting is that I see people trying so hard and failing… and then giving up hope, only because they have been following the wrong set of rules and crappy programs. 

You have cellulite because your body is out of balance and there is a certain level of toxicity that your body simply isn’t managing well so it’s pressing to the surface; annoying and frustrating you to get your attention loud and clear!

You don’t have cellulite and excess puffiness on your body because you don’t apply cellulite cream or exfoliate everyday or take a shot of wheatgrass in the morning and forgot to run your 5 km 4 times this week.

You have cellulite because something needs to shift. Your body is toxic and FED UP! These ridiculous claims, products and promises only lead to increasing your misery by making you feel overwhelmed, confused and like your efforts are worthless.

Let me share a few steps with you that must start happening if you want to feel and look better.

Because your life is precious, and it is passing.

And YOU get to determine how you live it

1) Eat Clean and Alkalize Your Body: To move toxins out of fat cells and from your body we don’t cut you open and suck them out, we draw them out. You need to cut the crap from your diet and consume more balancing, nutrient-dense, alkalizing foods and reduce the amount of harmful acidic foods that are creating inflammation and fat-storing pockets of toxins that show up on your rear, your thighs, arms and abdomen as dimply, lumpy cellulite land mines. Your diet needs to be made up of a variety of healthy; mostly organic, fruits and vegetables, healthy hydrating fats and good quality protein to chelate (bind) to the acidic toxic build up, drawing it out to be removed from your body.

2) Hydrate and Flush: If you take away only one thing from this email let it be this – DRINK WATER! You must drink enough water and eat hydrating foods to help flush and remove the toxins from your system through you and out. Water is essential to decreasing cellulite. Dehydration in your body leads to trapped toxins in your fat cells, which causes them to swell and pres up against the skins surface, plus you will retain more water being dehydrated because your body needs, but is barely getting any and will hold onto whatever is can so you end up have cellulite AND felling puffy. 

For best results drink 2-4 liters of good quality, not from a plastic bottle, water each and every day.

3) Break Up With Your Crack: Caffeine, sugar, salt, wine, beer, chocolate, dairy – what is your drug of choice? I say drug because that is exactly what all of these items are; highly addictive and creating the same level of stimulation to certain areas of your cerebral cortex that illicit the same opiate “feel-good” feeling that drugs such as cocaine, heroin or uppers would do. I know you believe that it is your taste buds and your stomach crying out for these treats but it’s not IT’S YOUR ADDICTED BRAIN looking for its next HIGH and stimulant, your poor little adrenals will soon begin to mimic this exact message creating out of control cravings, an insulin muffin top over your pants and squishy cottage-cheese thighs out of your undies, yes even the granny undies and control topJ

Once you connect to the realization that your unhealthy, daily addictions are contributing to your cellulite and zero energy, no sex drive, bunged up bum and lackluster skin; it will feel so freeing to break up with your crack and move on.

4) Move Your Garbage Towards The Exit Sign: In order to truly detoxify your body effectively and efficiently you must make sure your back-end is moving well and regularly “aka” you must be pooping daily! If you are trying to cleanse and flush everything from the top down, but your gut and intestinal system aren’t functioning well and you are dealing with constipation; then all of the junk and debris you are pulling from your fat cells and organs will back up into your system and re-circulate causing even more problems. Poop needs to flow in order for toxins to flush.

If you are not having healthy bowel movements your cellulite will be hanging around for a long time.

5) Get Stimulated: Lets’ get your lymphatic system moving and create some heat and buffering in your body! Daily dry brushing, massage, Epsom salts baths, certain essential oils and rebounding are effective ways to move the toxins through your lymph system and out to your major excretory organs; lungs, liver, bowels and skin.

Daily EXERCISE is probably the best way to get things moving and build lean muscle tissue which helps to firm and tone your body head to toe. You will never change the shape of your body, lose your cellulite or increase your core metabolic function by cardio alone. So get off the treadmill and into the weight room. 

Plus, all of these suggestions above for your lymph system help to decrease your major stress hormone cortisol and increase the amount of endorphins and serotonin you are producing – these are your feel good hormones, literally your body’s own natural anti-depressants.

My Own Cottage Cheese Tushie Story…

For as long as I can remember, I have exercised and since my very early teens, eaten very healthy – and in spite of this I still had cellulite. It was beyond frustrating to me. I had this idea, this impression in my head, that if I was working in the fitness industry; personal training and teaching classes that I should have no cellulite – like I mean ZERO!

I admit it made me very self-conscious and for years I would never train clients while wearing shorts, or wear them during my own workouts and there was no way I was every going to teach a class wearing them either, I would often have my sweater tied around my waist while I moved around the gym.

I was fine wearing bathing suits but HATED if I had to get up and walk around in one; especially if it meant walking AWAY from people with my arse and back of thighs facing them.

I have had MANY discussions with friends, clients and colleagues alike that I am not the only one to pull this smooth move.

Now listen, I know what some of you may thinking, “are you friggin kidding me your writing a sob story about being thin and having some cellulite and how you didn’t feel confident about it?

But YES, I am and it has nothing to do with my weight or what I may have looked like wearing clothes to other people, its about what I saw and how I felt. Being thin doesn’t mean you are free of insecurities.

My cellulite problem was affecting my self-esteem and self-confidence. Do you feel the same way?

I am very excited to announce that I have taken all 17 years of my experience teaching various aspects of holistic health, exercise, nutrition and well-being into one incredibly balanced consulting business.

For the majority of my practice I have met with clients initially over 3 sessions; the first to help create a timeline for me of their history and gain a better sense of their goals moving forward, the second to deliver them a foundational meal plan and some lifestyle goals to start working with and the third to see how things are going and where we are at.

From there I would usually see clients for anywhere from 2-4 more follow ups and then that was it.

Now don’t get me wrong; I have always had pretty great results with my clients following this protocol and maintained some pretty solid relationships with most of them BUT I want more – I want more for them…

I have come to a place in my life and in my practice and business where I want more for the people I care about and the people I work with. I want there to be more education, a better connection to their whole body, more accountability and to work equally on their commitment to nutrition, exercise, supplementation, sleep, hormone balancing, stress management and incorporating other modalities of healthy living into their life so…

These are your Nervous system, Musckuloskeletal system, Urinary system, Reproductive system, Digestive system, Intestinal system, Lymphatic system, Cardiovascular system, Endocrine system and Respiratory system.
  • We will work through your hormonal profile to best determine the areas in need of re-balancing and some extra TLC.
  • I will be helping you to build your own Tribe of wellness gurus: chiropractor, osteopath, reiki master, naturopath, homeopath, personal trainer/coach, massage therapist, the stores to shop at and so much more!
  • We will navigate your shopping budget and grocery list building and cart filling strategies or lack there of.
  • We have a bi-weekly follow-up calls or email sessions depending on your schedule and needs, to ensure you are on the right track, address any concerns and questions and add slight tweaking if necessary.
  • During each follow-up session with you my focus with you is different, creating building blocks from our foundation up.
  • You will keep a journal throughout the process for me and submit bi-weekly follow-ups which I will closely monitor and I will provide you with the template needed.
  • Once monthly, you will join a private Simplicity Project group chat on Spreecast or Google Hangouts for a Q&A session. These group chats are great as you gain insight and tips from other people on the program’s success, struggles and inspiring human moments.

I choose to work with a limited group of inspiring individuals in this program. Why? Because I know how busy my own life is and I am only willing to take on the amount of people I know I can manage with enough clear communication and commitment. I want you to succeed. I want you to be your own best friend, motivator and mentor.

Exercise & Supplements – What To Do & What To Take!

It is that time of year – parties, wine, cookies, appetizers, chocolate and savoury meals with larger than life portions. Late nights, busy schedules and feeling overwhelmed by the lack of time there is to accomplish what ‘need’s to be done.

So what’s a girl to do to stay in balance and not lose her mind or herself?

Here are a few strategies I follow myself and share with my clients too:

  1. Get to bed by 10/10:30pm each night
  2. Create a gratitude moment first thing
  3. Hydrate upon waking
  4. Eat within 1 hour of waking
  5. Take appropriate, good quality supplements
  6. Exercise
  7. Say No
  8. Say Yes
  9. Re-Group Mid-day
  10. Get Adjusted, have a pedi, book a massage or a tea date with your girlfriend
  11. Read
  12. Gratitude before bed

It’s All In A Day’s Work…Top 5 Nutrition Tips For the Office

 

Eat Breakfast – It may sound cliché but this is the most important meal of the day. It also sets the tone for your digestion, metabolism, mood and food choices that you will make for the rest of the day. Some good ideas are: Oatmeal with ¼ cup fresh berries, chia and raw almonds,  Nature’s Path Mesa Sunrise cereal with 2 tbsp mixed raw nuts & seeds, topped with unsweetened almond milk. or a fresh Green based juice made by YOU or a Smoothie: 1 cup almond milk, 1/2 banana, ½ cup pineapple, 4 ice cubes, 2 handfuls of mixed greens, 20 raw cashews and tsp cinnamon; blend and enjoy!

Graze Throughout the Day – The single most important thing that you should focus on daily with regards to food is eating often enough and making the right combinations. You should be going no longer than 3-4 hours without something. Your meals and snacks need to be a balance of complex carb, lean protein and healthy fat, ex: Quinoa Salad with chopped vegetables, organic hard-boiled eggs, avocado and seeds for a meal or Apple with 2 tbsp raw cashews for a snack.

Don’t drink Calories – Sweetened beverages such as pop, juice drinks, coffee drinks and tea may satisfy your thirst, but give you lots of empty calories. What’s worse is that, unlike eating solid food, drinking liquid calories doesn’t make you feel full so you won’t eat less food afterwards. Simply cutting a can of pop a day can help you lose 15 pounds in a year! Diet or zero-calorie pop offers no nutritional values either – it’s just water added with artificial sweeteners and caffeine. Drink water instead. Carrying a bottle of water with you filled with either chlorophyll, frozen berries, fresh lemon juice or Emergen C. Aim to drink 2-3 litres of water daily.

Snack Between 1-3pm – This is the classic, “I need chocolate, coffee, a doughnut or muffin time of day followed by “I could also use a nap”. To help diminish these feelings and cravings work on your first 3 goals diligently, and…keep an extra smoothie or green juice in your lunch bag or a bin in your office of “healthy treats” like The Kind bar, Nature bar, homemade balls and bites, peanut free trail mix. These snacks taste great, like you are having something you shouldn’t be, but they are in fact quite healthy. More importantly they are all well-balanced and will help towards stabilizing your blood sugar so that you don’t hit a slump and crave the junk.

Prepare, Prepare, Prepare – Look at your week ahead of time, before you grocery shop, so that you can meal plan and base your grocery list off of this. Be honest, be realistic and be consistent. Not only will having a plan make you choose healthier options it will also save you money on take-out and fast food.

Get Up & Move! – Set a timer in your office and every hour stand up and do a few stretches, take a few deep breaths or squat to tap your chair 25 times. This little bit of movement requires little effort, no change of clothes or major sweating, but it will give you that second wind or little boost of energy you are looking for. Plus…performing 25 squats each hour would average you somewhere around 360 squats daily!!! That’s is one tight, firm tushy you could have:)
